Most golfers step onto the range or fire up their simulator with the exact same routine: pull out a 7-iron, lock onto a single target, and hit 20 balls in a row. By ball five, you’re hitting it crisp and straight. It feels like a great session, until you get to the 1st tee and realize you don’t get five practice swings to dial in a distance.
On the course, every single shot needs a different club, a new yardage, and a specific landing zone. Practice that doesn’t mirror those constant changes might build a nice-looking swing, but it won’t help you lower your handicap.
That is the core idea behind the drills built into the Foresight Sports App.
Instead of just recording raw numbers, the Foresight App’s Training Facility turns your launch monitor’s camera-tracked impact data into goal-driven practice sessions, whether you’re hitting in an indoor simulator bay or practicing on an outdoor grass tee box. By pairing real-time 3D ball flight visuals with dynamic target zones and instant scoring feedback, modes like the Ladder Drill and Target Practice bridge the gap between hitting range balls and executing under course pressure.
Here is a look at the key drills inside the app, the logic behind how they work, and how to use them, indoors or outdoors, to build skills that translate directly to your scorecard.
Master Distance Control: The Ladder Drill
Distance control is one of the biggest separators between average golfers and low handicaps.
The Ladder Drill challenges golfers to work through progressively changing yardages, encouraging them to adjust their feel, tempo, and club selection from one shot to the next.
This will allow players to hone their feel with their wedges, allowing them to be more consistent with their chip shots.
Benefits of the Ladder Drill
- Develop more consistent carry distances
- Improve wedge and short iron precision
- Learn to control trajectory and speed
- Build confidence under pressure
- Practice realistic shot-to-shot adjustments
It’s an excellent drill for golfers looking to sharpen their scoring clubs and eliminate the large distance gaps that often lead to missed greens.
If you are looking to hone your mental game, pressure mode can be enabled which will send you back if you miss the target. This will help prepare you for realistic course conditions where a missed shot actually impacts your score.

Improve Your Accuracy: Target Practice
Anybody can hit the ball far if they get lucky, what separates high and low handicaps is the ability to put the ball where you want it.
The Target Practice drills focus on approach-shot precision by scoring every shot based on how close it finishes to the intended target.
Instead of evaluating a swing based purely on feel, you’ll receive immediate objective feedback that helps identify patterns in your misses and highlights areas for improvement.
Multiple Practice Modes
The app includes several Target Practice variations designed for different parts of your game:
Approach Random
Random targets between approximately 105 and 155 yards simulate the constantly changing approach shots you’ll face on the course.
This will help you practice a variety of shots you commonly see into the green, letting you be more confident on your approaches and up your Greens In Regulation statistic.
Long Approach Random
Targets extend into the 155 to 200-yard range, helping golfers improve consistency with longer irons and hybrids.
These shots are big deciders for longer Par 4s and short Par 5s, helping you turn a regular par into a birdie or less.
Approach Fixed
Targets are fixed at 120, 140, and 160 yards with widths increasing with distance. This will allow you to practice common approach shots and dial in those numbers.
Precision Grid
The Precision Grid introduces scoring zones at the back left and back right targets, rewarding both distance control and directional accuracy.
This adds another layer of challenge while encouraging golfers to think strategically about where they miss.

Customize Every Practice Session
One of the biggest advantages of the Foresight Sports App is the ability to tailor drills to your own goals.
Golfers can customize:
- Target distances anywhere between 5 and 350 yards
- Randomization
- Difficulty level
- Number of shots
- Scoring quadrants (Which sides of the target area count)
Whether you’re preparing for tournament golf or simply trying to tighten dispersion with your wedges and irons, every session can be built precisely around the areas that need the most attention.
Turning Data into Results: Post-Drill Analysis
After finishing either the Ladder or Target Practice drill, an analysis tab will pop up allowing you to examine:
- Miss Pattern Distribution
- Strokes Gained by Distance
- Drill Score and Performance over Time
Two key datasets here are the Miss Pattern Distribution and Strokes Gained by Distance.
Miss Pattern Distribution will allow you to see which quadrant (Far or Short, Left and Right) you are erring too more often. This will allow you to gain a better idea of what is going wrong, and give a coach an insight on what corrections they may need to make.
Strokes Gained by Distance helps you see where you are strong from. A distance with a high strokes gained statistic means that you are putting yourself in a better position from that distance. For example, if you have +1.8 from 150-175 and +0.7 from 175-200, then your longer irons may need more work than the shorter ones in order to allow you to be best set up for scoring.
Practice with Purpose
The difference between casual range sessions and meaningful improvement often comes down to one simple factor: intention.
The Practice Drills in the Foresight Sports App transform simulator practice from repetitive ball striking into structured training that develops real, transferable golf skills. Whether you’re warming up in Quick Range, refining your distance control with Ladder Drill, or challenging yourself in Target Practice, every swing has a measurable objective.
By combining industry-leading launch monitor technology with engaging, goal-oriented practice modes, the Foresight Sports App helps golfers of every skill level get more value from every practice session, and ultimately, play better golf when it matters most.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Practice Drills work with all Foresight Sports launch monitors?
Practice Drills are available within the Foresight Sports App and are compatible with supported Foresight Sports launch monitors. Available features may vary depending on your device and subscription.
Are Practice Drills suitable for beginners?
Yes. Golfers of all skill levels can benefit from structured practice. Beginners gain valuable feedback on consistency, while experienced players can use the drills to refine distance control, accuracy, and shot dispersion.
Can I customize the Practice Drills?
Yes. Many drills allow you to adjust target distances, difficulty, shot count, and scoring settings, making it easy to create practice sessions that align with your goals.
Are Practice Drills more effective than hitting balls on a virtual range?
Traditional range sessions often become repetitive and lack measurable goals. Practice Drills assign objectives, score each shot, and provide instant feedback, helping golfers stay engaged while developing skills that transfer directly to the golf course.
