What We Measure

Our launch monitors use a combination of infrared object-tracking and high-speed, high-resolution camera-based technology to
precisely measure every aspect of club head and ball launch performance.

Ball Data

The following terms are used to describe various types of ball data, also known as the launch conditions.

Ball Speed

The measurement of the ball speed immediately after impact.

Launch Angle

The vertical start direction of the golf ball, relative to the ground plane, is measured in degrees.

Side Angle

The horizontal start direction of the golf ball, relative to the target line, measured in degrees.
Often referred to as push/pull. A ball starting right of target is shown as a positive number, a ball starting
left id shown as a negative number.

Total Spin

The total number of revolutions of the golf ball, about the spin-axis, measure in RPM (revolutions per minute).

Spin Tilt

One of the most important pieces of data measured by our launch monitors is the spin-tilt axis. The spintilt axis is the axis around which the golf ball rotates to create shot curvature and lift.

Club Data

The following points describe the ball’s journey from the point of contact with the club, to the point that it reaches the ground.

Club Speed

The speed the golf club s traveling prior to impact.

Impact Point

The precise measurement of the contact point of the golf ball on the club face, relative to the face centre, as determined by the fiducial placement.

Angle of Attack

The vertical direction the golf club is traveling immediately prior to impact, relative to the ground plane, measured in degrees. A positive number is known as ‘hitting up’ on the ball and a negative number is known as ‘hitting down’ on the ball.

Club Path

The horizontal direction the golf club is traveling immediately prior to impact, relative to the target line, measured in degrees. A positive number shows the club was traveling to the right of the target line, a negative number shows the club was traveling to the left of the target line.

Face Angle At Impact

The measurement of the club head’s face plane position square to either the path or the target line.

Loft At Impact

The measurement in degrees of the club head’s face plane position vertically relative to the ground plane.The measurement in degrees of the club head’s face plane position vertically relative to the ground plane.

Closure Rate

The rate of angular change of the clubface in 3D space. Presented in degrees per second or revolutions per minute.

Camera vs. Radar Launch Monitor Technology

Our launch monitors use exact photometric measurements taken with a clear, direct view of the impact window.
We measure club head data by directly imaging the club face. This provides far more reliable and accurate data than radar-based systems, which are positioned behind the golfer and have no direct view of the club face. By capturing thousands of images per second, building a virtual 3D model, and then analyzing a multitude of data components, our technology is able to create the most accurate and complete picture of your ball and club head performance – and deliver the results in real-time.
